I, Janar Suuster, am a fourth generation beekeeper carrying on the heritage and skills of my ancestors.
My great-grandfather Priidu Lakkur kept bees in the Sepa farm in Northern Saaremaa already in the 19th century. on the other side. It was he who laid the foundation for professional beekeeping, which has fed our family for four generations in a row.
Already at that time, great-great-grandfather Priidu used to go across the ice with his horse and sled in the winter to sell honey in Riga.
In a difficult time, when the country was plundered by World War II, my grandmother Loviise Suuster took care of the bees. After the war, my father Heldur Suuster, who was also a beekeeper of the local collective farm for a long time, took over beekeeping.
Father Heldur, whose breeding work often ended with a national award, achieved significant results in increasing the yield of honey.
I have been involved in beekeeping all my conscious life. At the moment, my father and I take care of the bees in our family. He with more advice and me with force. I try to be worthy of my father and to maintain the level achieved by him.
During 150 years, a lot has changed, especially equipment and opportunities, but the most important thing has remained unchanged over time - love and care for nature.
We store this love and care in jars with Saaremaa honey and we want to share it all with YOU!
